Eagle Song Storyline

Portrait of a medicine man wearing a holy bonnet. Native American bonnets are sacred and symbolize leadership, healing, peace, and not just war. There are numerous sacred types of bonnets. This medicine man is calling down the spirit of the eagle (full eagle etched on back of sculpture) to help in his healing practices. The Native American route for healing is not just about defeating physical symptoms but aims to strengthen the mind, body, and spirit connection.

Alvin Marshall is an award-winning Navajo sculptor who works chiefly with stone, often sculpting outside amid the elements. He studied under renowned Navajo artist Oreland Joe in the 1980’s and later spent time in Italy to gain insight into Italian sculpture and art history. Each of his figurative and animal pieces is unique, one-of-a-kind and often tells a story deeply rooted in Navajo culture and Marshall’s own experiences.
