In the Navajo belief system, the stars are placed to teach us. Star Girls are spirits that teach the tribe through the stars and talk about the universe. Star girls can tell people when to plant, as well as transmit other knowledge from the stars to help us.

Alvin Marshall is an award-winning Navajo sculptor who works chiefly with stone, often sculpting outside amid the elements. He studied under renowned Navajo artist Oreland Joe in the 1980’s and later spent time in Italy to gain insight into Italian sculpture and art history. Each of his figurative and animal pieces is unique, one-of-a-kind and often tells a story deeply rooted in Navajo culture and Marshall’s own experiences.
