Lynn Heil

 Lynn Heil, Oil Painter

Lynn-Heil-Headshot.JPG

Lynn Heil fell in love with the landscape when he was a child. Through his oil paintings, he seeks to capture the ephemeral quality of northern Arizona, especially Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon and the Grand Canyon. Never without a pencil and a sketchbook, Lynn says he never gets tired of painting the Southwest landscape because it offers endless challenges. “As an artist, I experience and paint the world around me from the grandest scenes to the intimacy of the mundane,” says Lynn. “On this journey of self-discovery, I respectfully and happily share with the viewer the effects of light on every bend and fork in the road, through careful consideration of values, shapes and colors. Each painting evokes a feeling, and expressing it clearly and simply is my goal. Doing this bring me joy!”

Lynn grew up in a small town in Iowa. He studied art and art history with a focus on graphic arts at University of Iowa. After college, he traveled throughout the West and found work at the Grand Canyon. His fondness for the area never diminished, even after he settled in Dallas, Texas, to work as a picture framer. After several years learning the trade, he was offered a framing job in Sedona. In 1984, Lynn started a business in Sedona crating and shipping artwork.

Lynn won recognition as an emerging artist at the Sedona Arts Center Member’s Show in 2009 and has since been juried into numerous shows at SAC. Lynn was invited to participate in the inaugural Plein Air Legacy Event at Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village in 2016.
